Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

End-stage liver or kidney disease compromises fertility for most women, and organ transplantation is the best way to restore ovulatory cycles. Almost seventy years have elapsed since the first report on pregnancy in a graft recipient, and since then, thousands of babies have been delivered by post-transplant mothers. Even though they remain high-risk, the progress in immunosuppressive therapy and perinatal and neonatal care enables successful pregnancies. The knowledge about reproductive health issues in this unique population derives mainly from single-center reports and national registries. The continued studies are indispensable for up-to-date proper counseling and management of these patients. Prospective studies involving maternal and neonatal outcomes and assessment of long-term health outcomes in transplant recipients and their offspring are rarely performed and should be encouraged. This Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of knowledge on the reproductive health issues in liver and graft recipients. Papers addressing these topics are invited for this Special Issue, especially those with a practical focus on providing optimal care for this unique group of patients.
