Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With the rapid development of industry and agriculture, a large amount of solid waste, excessive pesticides, heavy metals, and other toxic substances have entered the soil, causing huge pollution. With the continuous increase in the area of contaminated soil, which has caused great adverse effects on human production and life, soil pollution remediation has become an area of work that must be strengthened. The purpose of this Special Issue (VSI) is to publish state-of-the-art research that gathers current knowledge and pressing questions about soil pollution and soil remediation. This Special Issue will focus on the environmental behavior of soil contaminants, soil contaminant detection, soil remediation, and soil ecology. The topics for the VSI include, but are not limited to:

  1. the migration and transformation of pollutants, especially new, persistent, organic pollutants such as microplastics, antibiotics, PAHs, PFOA, etc. in the soil or soil-groundwater;
  2. soil contaminant detection;
  3. new and modified soil remediation materials (biochar) and soil remediation technologies;
  4. the ecotoxicology of pollutants on soil;
  5. soil microorganisms.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue

  • Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
  • Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
  • Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
  • External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
  • Reprint: MDPI Books provides the opportunity to republish successful Special Issues in book format, both online and in print.
