Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Across the world, water stress levels remained safe at 18.6% in 2019. However, Southern Asia and Central Asia registered high levels of water stress at over 75%, whereas Northern Africa registered a critical water stress level of over 100%. Since 2015, water stress levels have increased significantly in Western Asia and Northern Africa (United Nations, 2022). Due to the above-mentioned issues, the sustainable management of water resources is essential for biodiversity conservation. In this sense, wastewater treatment for its reuse should be part of the solution to the problems of water scarcity and contamination, since treated wastewater can be used to replace freshwater for irrigation, industrial processes or recreational purposes. These can also be used to maintain environmental flow, and the by-products of their treatment can generate energy and nutrients.
This Special Issue of International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of knowledge on domestic wastewater (DW) and/or industrial wastewater (IW), with the knowledge that DW is discharged from housing and service areas, generated mainly by human metabolism and domestic activities, while IW wastewater is discharged from premises used for any commercial or industrial activity (e.g., desalination, food industry, textile industry and mining, among others). The submission of new research papers, reviews and case reports is encouraged. Papers that deal with new approaches to derive water resource standards or risk assessment and management are also welcome.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2500 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
