Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Consciousness is one of the most meaningful topics of interest, and has been for centuries, starting from the question of what consciousness is. Consciousness is a volatile phenomenon that is not easily defined, yet it determines our perception of what we consider as objective reality. Open questions, such as the interconnections between attention, intentionality, and consciousness, as well as the relationship between different states of the self (e.g., the narrative and minimal selves), self-observation and perception, autobiographical memory, and embodiment, remain open. What might be the outcome of raising consciousness and self-awareness in education, and for society and ecology as a whole? Additionally, how might changing the inner environment impact our external one?
Consequently, the aim of the current Special Issue is to advance current knowledge and understanding on the concepts of consciousness, awareness, and self-awareness, their relation to different contemplative traditions, their underlying mechanisms, and effects on personal and social wellbeing and public health. We aim to create a broader picture towards a shared language and definitions, seeking for ways by which these different perspectives might enrich each other and provide a deeper understanding of this important topic. Both empirical and theoretical papers, utilizing diverse disciplinary and methodological approaches, are welcome.
