Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Research into molecular hydrogen (H2) for human health has expanded rapidly over the past two decades. An ever-growing body of evidence identifies H2 as having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hormonal regulatory effects that in many cases have translated into clinically relevant findings. Through the modulation of numerous aspects of cellular activity—with mitochondrial function, redox balance, signalling pathways, and gene expression as examples—H2 is demonstrated to promote homeostatic function in cellular, tissue and organ systems.
While such clinical and pre-clinical observations have been beneficial for advancing the pharmacokinetic and physiological understanding of H2 applications in relation to human disease, empirical research conducted specifically for the therapeutic benefit of target veterinary species remains scarce and fragmented. Further, direct translation into veterinary medicine has yet to become an established field of scientific enquiry and there are many outstanding questions in relation to the application of H2 in veterinary medicine.
This Special Issue is dedicated to the exploration of H2 therapeutics in relation to veterinary medicine and provides a platform for expanding the current knowledge of H2 in domestic animals. Research articles and review papers are welcome on topics including, but not limited to, the following: aquatic species, birds, exotic animals, non-primate mammals, and rodents.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Hydrogen is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
