Dear Colleagues,
Advanced nanomaterials have emerged as a cornerstone technology in addressing the efficiency, cost, and durability challenges facing the hydrogen economy. As the world accelerates its transition towards carbon neutrality, the development of sophisticated nanostructured materials is pivotal for unlocking the full potential of hydrogen as a clean energy vector. Recent breakthroughs in nanocatalysis, porous frameworks, and low-dimensional materials have opened up new avenues for optimizing hydrogen generation, storage, and conversion processes.
This Special Issue, "Advanced Nanomaterials for Hydrogen Energy," aims to serve as a leading forum for disseminating the latest advances in the design, synthesis, and application of nanomaterials within the hydrogen value chain. We invite contributions focusing on, but not limited to, novel nanocatalysts for water electrolysis and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution; advanced nanoporous materials (such as MOFs, COFs, and porous carbons) for solid-state hydrogen storage; and high-performance nanostructured components for fuel cells and other energy devices.
We particularly encourage interdisciplinary research that bridges fundamental material science with practical engineering applications. Submissions exploring innovative synthetic strategies, mechanistic insights, in situ characterization, and theoretical modeling are highly welcome. By curating a collection of high-quality original research articles and comprehensive reviews, this Special Issue seeks to highlight emerging trends, identify existing technological bottlenecks, and inspire new solutions to accelerate the commercialization of hydrogen energy technologies.
We cordially invite researchers, engineers, and scientists to contribute their pioneering work to this Special Issue and join us in shaping the future of sustainable energy through nanotechnology.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Hydrogen is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
