Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

China and its adjacent regions host several of the world's most representative orogenic systems, including the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, the East Kunlun, West Qinling, West Tianshan, and the Himalayan–Tibetan Plateau, as well as ancient cratons such as the North China Craton. Investigating orogenesis, crustal growth, and surface processes across these orogens and cratons is pivotal to deciphering continental accretion mechanisms, magma-tectonic coupling, and the deep-to-surface expression of plate convergence. The goal of this Special Issue is to collect papers (original research articles and review papers) to give insights into the mechanisms of orogenesis, the spatio-temporal framework of crustal growth, and the interplay between tectonic and surface processes across the major orogens and cratons of China and adjacent regions. This scope aligns closely with the journal's commitment to publishing cutting-edge interdisciplinary geoscience research on solid Earth evolution. This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the following themes:

  • Tectono-magmatic evolution of orogenic belts, including suture zones, ophiolites, and arc-related magmatism (e.g., East Kunlun, West Qinling, West Tianshan) and surface processes;
  • Crustal growth and petrogenesis, addressing magma differentiation, fractional crystallization, and continental accretion through zircon geochronology and isotope geochemistry;
  • Craton evolution and surface processes, encompassing Precambrian geology, metamorphic petrology, and the coupling between tectonic uplift and landscape development;
  • Sedimentary basin studies related to orogenesis, investigating the depositional histories, provenance analysis, and tectono-sedimentary evolution (especially that of foreland and intermontane basins), to decipher the linkages between tectonic evolution, basin development, and surface processes.
