Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue will examine the changing nature of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the context of global economic transformation. The analyses included in this Special Issue should focus on three key phenomena: structural changes in the international economic system, the dynamic development of digital technologies, and the growing importance of sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) responsibility. Our objective is to demonstrate how these factors influence investor decisions, corporate strategies, and the policies of countries receiving foreign capital.
To date, research has primarily focused on classical location theories (Dunning, 1988) and cost factors. Contemporary approaches (UNCTAD, OECD, Narula, 2022; Zhan, 2023) emphasize the need to incorporate aspects of digitalization, ecological transformation, and geopolitical risk into the analysis of FDI flows.
This Special Issue will serve as an interdisciplinary platform for knowledge exchange.
The thematic scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Changes in FDI directions and structures in the context of new geopolitical tensions, regionalization, and supply chain restructuring;
- The role of digitalization and automation in investment location decisions, and the efficiency of international enterprises;
- The importance of ESG criteria and green innovation in shaping investment strategies;
- The investment policies of countries and international institutions promoting sustainable forms of FDI.
