10th Anniversary

2023 marks the 10th anniversary of Economies, a peer-reviewed open access journal on development economics and macroeconomics. We want to express our sincerest thanks for the contributions of the authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and all the people working in some way for the journal over the years. Inaugural volume released, published as a quarterly journal.



Prof. Dr. Ralf Fendel was the founding Editor-in-Chief.

Prof. Dr. Ralf Fendel studied economics at the University of Mainz (Germany) from 1989 to 1994. In 1998, he received his Ph.D. in economics from the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management (Vallendar, Germany). During his Ph.D. studies, he was also a scholar at the London School of Economics (UK) and the Georgetown University in Washington, DC (USA). After finishing his Ph.D., he joined the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt (Germany) from 1998 to 2000. From 2001 to 2007, Ralf Fendel was an assistant professor of economics at the WHU. Within that period, he also served as an interim professor (“Lehrstuhlvertretung”) at the University of Erfurt. He also taught at the University of Applied Sciences in Frankfurt and the University of Konstanz. In 2006, Ralf Fendel finished his habilitation, and since summer 2007, he has been a full professor of economics at the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management. From 2007 to 2008, he also held a professor position at the European Business School (EBS).



Economies was indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI—Web of Science).

Economies was indexed in Scopus.



Economies was covered by Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC).

Prof. Dr. Robert Czudaj was appointed as the new Section Editor-in-Chief for Economies.

Currently, Prof. Dr. Robert Czudaj is a full professor of economics, in particular (monetary) macroeconomics (W3), at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg. Previously he was affiliated with the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich as an interim professor for statistics and econometrics (W3); at Chemnitz University of Technology as assistant professor (juniorprofessur); and at the University of Duisburg-Essen as assistant professor (akademischer rat). Currently, he also serves as the associate editor for the International Journal of Finance & Economics. His research interests include applied econometrics, monetary economics, macroeconomics, time series analysis, financial econometrics, financial markets, and exchange rates.



Economies adopted a monthly publication schedule.

The first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Award was announced.



CiteScore: increased from 2.4 to 2.7.
