Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This volume implements recent mathematical methodologies to understand musical logic, especially its gestural dynamics, based upon algebra, category theory, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, algebraic topology, and topos theory. Musical logic implements tonality theories, tonal modulation, counterpoint, and the projection from symbolic music spaces to physical spaces of acoustical performance. Musical logic is also a cultural determinant. Modulation in traditional Chinese music theory differs conceptually from classical European modulation theory. Counterpoint in Fux’s approach differs from counterpoint in Indian perspectives. The mathematical methodologies also differ when dealing with formal as opposed to psychological ontologies. For performance theory, the gestural formalism requires a creative conceptual approach, where algebraic topology implements classification tools for embodied performance dynamics.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Computation is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
