Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Due to the rapid development of high-penetration renewable energy, electric vehicles, distributed energy storage, flexible loads, and virtual power plants, distribution and utilization systems are evolving from traditional passive power delivery networks into new intelligent systems featuring high-dimensional sensing, active control, low-carbon coordination, and multi-agent interaction. Artificial intelligence technologies provide new theoretical tools and engineering approaches for state awareness, load identification, operational optimization, fault diagnosis, user behavior analysis, flexibility aggregation, and electricity–carbon coordinated decision-making in smart distribution and utilization systems.
This Special Issue focuses on key technologies for artificial intelligence-enabled smart distribution and utilization systems. We welcome original research on the applications of machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, large language models, data-driven optimization, physics-informed modeling, and trustworthy artificial intelligence in distribution networks, demand-side systems, integrated energy systems, virtual power plants, and industrial loads. In particular, we encourage submissions addressing source–grid–load–storage coordination, demand-side flexibility exploration, non-intrusive load monitoring, electricity–carbon factor analysis, industrial-load-based virtual power plants, edge–cloud collaborative control, privacy protection, and secure and trustworthy operation under the background of low-carbon energy transition.
The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together the latest advances from the interdisciplinary fields of power systems, artificial intelligence, energy management, and low-carbon technologies, and to promote the development of smart distribution and utilization systems toward greater security, economy, low-carbon performance, flexibility, and trustworthiness.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Computation is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
