Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational modeling, and intelligent sensing are rapidly reshaping the field of biomedical engineering. These technologies are making it possible to diagnose diseases earlier and more accurately, interpret complex biomedical data with greater confidence, and support more personalized approaches to patient care. As these intelligent tools continue to evolve, they are opening the door to new ideas, new workflows, and new ways of supporting clinicians in real-world settings.
With this Special Issue, we aim to bring together a collection of high-quality contributions that reflect the latest progress in intelligent diagnostic methods and decision support solutions. We are particularly interested in work that introduces new algorithms, analysis techniques, wearable or remote monitoring systems, or integrated platforms that help improve the reliability and efficiency of clinical decision-making. Submissions that demonstrate how intelligent systems can be translated from research into clinical or practical use are especially encouraged.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, methodological developments, case studies, and application-focused papers. Our goal is to highlight interdisciplinary work that connects engineering innovation with genuine clinical needs and challenges.
The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches for disease diagnosis;
- Predictive modeling and risk assessment tools for clinical decision support;
- Intelligent wearable, implantable, or remote health monitoring systems;
- Decision support frameworks for treatment planning and personalized medicine;
- Explainable AI (XAI) for transparent and trustworthy clinical applications;
- Integration of intelligent systems into real-world clinical workflows.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
