Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Traumatic bereavement—the sudden or violent death of a close other—is a major global public health concern. In addition to being the single greatest contributor to the PTSD burden worldwide, traumatic bereavement is associated with a substantial risk of other negative mental and behavioral health consequences, such as prolonged grief and depression.
Noting the pervasive and considerable impact of traumatic bereavement, research on this tragic experience has grown in the last decade. However, additional research should be conducted in order to provide a more concise understanding of the impact of traumatic bereavement and thus inform effective support and/or intervention, which continues to be limited. Accordingly, this Special Issue aims to develop a more nuanced understanding of the impact of traumatic bereavement, particularly among groups, individuals, and treatment approaches that have received less empirical and scholarly attention.
We encourage submissions that focus on under-studied correlates or factors that influence both deleterious and adaptive outcomes of traumatic bereavement, under-represented loss experiences, as well as novel approaches to treatment and support that show promise. We are therefore particularly interested in research on traumatic bereavement among individuals who identify as a minority, the role of social determinants of health, the impact of substance use, fatal drug-related overdose, and specific treatment modalities.
