Innovative Solutions for Air Quality Monitoring and Assessment in Environmental Systems
This special issue belongs to the section “Air Quality“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Efforts to combat air pollution have intensified globally, but persistent challenges necessitate ongoing dedication to improve air quality at both local and regional levels. In this context, the Special Issue “Innovative Solutions for Air Quality Monitoring and Assessment in Environmental Systems” highlights the latest advancements in air quality monitoring and analysis.
The urgency for sophisticated assessment methods is heightened by the complex interactions between pollutants, natural processes, and human activities within environmental systems, such as urban areas, industrial zones, agricultural areas, and natural ecosystems. These interactions are critical for developing effective monitoring and mitigation strategies. Climate change further complicates air quality issues through altering pollutant dispersion patterns and their transport mechanisms by increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events.
Topics in this issue include the development of advanced sensors for detecting pollutants such as particulate matter, ground level ozone, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The issue also covers the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to refine air quality models, innovative sampling techniques, real-time monitoring systems, and remote sensing technologies for assessing air pollution at various scales. Additionally, the issue will feature research on understanding the interactions between pollutants and various environmental systems, as well as impact assessments. Reflecting global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions, this Special Issue aims to enhance our understanding of pollutant dynamics and provide evidence-based insights for effective policy and management practices. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit their original research, reviews, and case studies. By highlighting recent advancements, this Special Issue strives to accelerate progress towards cleaner air and sustainable solutions in the face of evolving environmental challenges.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Atmosphere is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
