Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Structural mechanics and vibration analysis are critical to advancing modern engineering, underpinning the design and resilience of systems in aerospace, civil infrastructure, and emerging technologies. As engineering challenges grow more complex—encompassing lightweight materials, adaptive structures, and extreme environments—the demand for deeper insights into nonlinear dynamics, multi-physics interactions, and innovative modeling has never been greater. Traditional approaches often fall short in capturing real-world complexities such as instability, chaos, and wave propagation, necessitating advanced methodologies to address these challenges. This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research that redefines structural dynamics and vibration mitigation, bridging theoretical breakthroughs with transformative engineering applications.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which seeks to unify theoretical breakthroughs, experimental validations, and interdisciplinary applications in structural mechanics and vibration. By fostering collaboration across academia and industry, we aim to accelerate the translation of fundamental discoveries into transformative engineering solutions. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Nonlinear Dynamics and Bifurcation Analysis: Investigations into chaotic vibrations, post-buckling behavior, and parametric resonance in multi-degree-of-freedom systems.
  • Advanced Modeling Techniques: Development of reduced-order models, machine learning-assisted simulations, or hybrid frameworks for coupled thermo-mechanical-fluid systems.
  • Vibration Control and Energy Harvesting: Innovations in passive/active damping, metamaterials, and piezoelectric systems for mitigating unwanted vibrations or converting mechanical energy.
  • Multi-Physics and Multi-Scale Interactions: Studies on fluid–structure interaction, fracture mechanics under dynamic loading, or hierarchical modeling of composite materials.
  • Smart and Adaptive Structures: Applications of shape memory alloys, soft robotics, or sensor-integrated systems for real-time dynamic response modulation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
