Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Robert Henry has been appointed as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Applied Biosciences (ISSN 2813-0464).
Prof. Dr. Robert Henry conducts research on the development of new products from plants. He is a professor of Innovation in Agriculture at the University of Queensland and was the Foundation Director of the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI), a research institute of the University of Queensland that was established in collaboration with the Queensland Government. Professor Henry’s specialty research area is the study of agricultural crops using molecular tools. He is particularly interested in plants of economic and social importance and research into genome sequencing to capture novel genetic resources for the diversification of crops to deliver improved food and energy products. He was previously the Director of the Centre for Plant Conservation Genetics at Southern Cross University, the Research Director of the Grain Foods Cooperative Research Centre, and the Research Program Leader at the Queensland Agricultural Biotechnology Centre. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering in Australia.
The following is a short Q&A with Prof. Dr. Robert Henry, who shared with us his vision for the journal and his views of the research area and open access publishing:
1. What appealed to you about the journal that made you want to take the role as its Founding Editor-in-Chief?
I see bioscience as the key area of science supporting advances in modern societies.
2. What is your vision for the journal?
My vision is for Applied Biosciences to facilitate the rapid dissemination of important advances in the application of technologies with major impacts.
3. What does the future of this field of research look like?
Biosciences will increasingly draw upon advances in all areas of sciences to feed, fuel, and heal the world.
4. What do you think of the development of Open Access in the publishing field?
Open access is the logical endpoint of the process that started with the internet, allowing the scientific publication to move from print to online distribution and the associated enablement of Open Access.
We warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Robert Henry to his new role as Founding Editor-in-Chief, and we look forward to his guidance in helping Applied Biosciences reach new milestones.
