Meteorology is the study of the processes and phenomena of the earth’s atmosphere. These atmospheric phenomena include, but are not limited to, precipitation (rain and snow), hurricanes, and thunderstorms. They play an important role in many fields, such as the military, transport, agriculture, and construction, and have a considerable influence on the quality of human life and social development. People have attempted to predict the weather informally for hundreds of years, and the earliest systematic weather data recording that can be found is from around the fourteenth century [1]. However, the real scientific study of meteorology only started after the period of 1650–1700, when devices were invented to measure weather data [2].
MDPI is a pioneer of open access publishing. The year 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of its foundation [3]. Following the success of Atmosphere [4], Climate [5], etc., MDPI is pleased to announce the launch of a new open access journal, Meteorology (ISSN 2674-0494) [6], with a main focus on weather forecasting. By launching this journal, MDPI is further expanding its portfolio on earth sciences and giving more importance to this sub-branch of atmospheric sciences. We welcome the broad research community with expertise on meteorology to contribute to the development of this initiative into a successful and well-established journal.
As with other MDPI journals, we will continue to provide excellent services to the research community to maintain a fast and rigorous peer review process. We hope that you will enjoy publishing with us.
