Cover Story: This study aimed to clarify hip joint mobility and dynamic balance ability in soccer players with functional ankle instability. Male college soccer players divided into CAI and Non-CAI groups using the CAIT were measured passive hip ROMs and mSEBT for each leg. In the dominant leg, reach in a posterolateral direction in the CAI group was significantly less than in the Non-CAI group. Hip internal rotation angles in the CAI group were greater than in the Non-CAI group. The dominant leg in players with CAI had poor dynamic balance ability while reaching posterolaterally. However, it may not be always necessary to acquire hip flexibility in order to improve dynamic balance ability. Soccer player with CAI might use the stability of proximal joints to compensate for distal joint instability. View this paper
