Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

"Impact of Solid State Roadway Lighting on Melatonin in 2 Humans" is a very inetersting paper and should be published.

Reference has to be checked:

There isn't a connection - "Error! Reference source not found."

Author Response

Thank you for your comprehensive review of our work.  We appreciate the comments.  In response to your comments:

1) We have corrected the references and added one that was missing. We have also verified the numbering of the references.

2) The "Reference Source not found" error is a Microsoft Word error when the figures and captions are moved within a document.  We have corrected and verified this connection.

Again we appreciate your review and hope that our changes continue to have a positive impression.

Reviewer 2 Report

I have read the article with great interest. Taking into account the light pollution of the human environments  and the problem of melatonin deficiency in modern societies, every study concerning the effects of artificial light, like roadway lightning, seems to be very important. The study has been carefully planned, performed and described. However, in my opinion, the results presented in the Supplementary Material, are a very important part of this study. I think, these results should be included in the main manuscript and carefully discussed. Some additionally minor comments can be found below:

1. Page 3, lines 93, 97, 103 - I think there are some problems with the figures/tables' citation. The same problem is found in the following parts of the manuscript ("Error"! Reference source not found"). After correction, it would be easier to understand the whole text, I mean to follow the Authors' ideas.

2. The scheme presenting the schedule of sessions would be helpful.

3. All abbreviations used in the figures/tables should be explained in legends, independently on the main manuscript.

Author Response

Thank you for your comprehensive review of our work.  We appreciate the comments.  In response to your comments:

We appreciate your comment regarding the supplementary data. In response to your recommendation, we included the supplementary data and discussion in the primary paper.

1) The "Reference Source not found" error is a Microsoft Word error when the figures and captions are moved within a document.  We have corrected and verified this connection.  We also verified all of the figure numbering was correct.

2) We were unsure about this comment we present the timing of the exposure but the light source presentation was counterbalanced so there was no specific scheme.  We added the line "Lighting conditions were counterbalanced across each of the participants." in the experimental design sections and "Each lighting tower on the Smart Road is equipped with 3 luminaires to facilitate the counterbalancing of the light source presentation." in the description of the facility to aid the reader in understanding this methodology.  We hope ths satisfies this comment.

3) The abbreviation in the figure captions are defined at first within the caption. As an example - "(± standard error of the mean, SEM) " is n the caption defining the SEM abbreviation.

Again we appreciate your review and hope that our changes continue to have a positive impression.
