Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors,

Novel subject was considered under the study but can you please improve and incorporate the following suggestions

1- Abstract:  Abstract need improvement with following points

1- Camparing variable % should be mentioned in the Abstract.  Must show your results in %.

2- Methodology should be briefly discussed but precisely should be written in abstract ?

3- Key words need more appropriate and improvement

2- Introduction

a. Scope and objective are not clear please improve and incorporate

b. The novelty of work is missing. Add at end of the introduction

c. achieving sustainability goal should be explained at least onc paragraph

d. Why the current area is chosen for the study? Explain in the introduction

3- Methodology: Ok

4- Results

1-  Add some tables if possible with their error values obtained. Missing tables.

2- Figures 7, 8  The figures are of low quality. Supply all figures of high quality.

3- The limitation of the work is not explained. Explain at least half of the page before the conclusion.

4- In Results & discussion section the citation of literature is missing in many places, Please incorporate the suggestions.

5- There is lot of grammatical and sentence error. Check it throughout

6- Improve the conclusion with few more information

5- References

Please have a look  on all the references carefully once again according to recommended APA format.

Good Luck

The article investigates the effects of changing the oil in the automatic transmission of motor vehicles. Some points can be improved:

1- The statement "Automatic transmission is a key factor of decreasing CO2-emission" in section 1- Introduction should be better justified. Nowhere in the article is anything said about CO2 emissions.

2- The authors state, "This paper analyzes the effect of oil change in an automatic transmission that has not been used in OEM (original equipment manufacturer) applications and previous studies". I suggest you be more specific. What is different about the article when compared to previous studies? Does no published article address automatic transmission oil change? Or do they approach it another way? If they use another approach, it would be interesting to show these differences, highlighting the contribution of your article.

3- The "Conclusions" highlight "flexible service intervals" but the meaning of this term is not clear. It was not addressed directly in the article. I suggest reexamining and explaining clearly in the text, before the "Conclusions".

The paper describes vibration analysis on a vehicle automatic transmission under some different operation conditions (50 km/h, idle etc.) before and after change of the fluid in the automatic transmission. The paper has some merits but has little technical details to deserve publication in the current status.

Among the suggested additions, I would include:

1)     Analysis of the used and the fresh oils. Properties like viscosity, water content, metal particles should be included.

2)     Oil temperature has significant effect on oil viscosity, it should be mentioned how the authors controlled tha the measurements were made under same oil temperature.

3)     A more numerical evaluation of the vibration differences before and after oil change. Just comparing the maximum values.

English wording, although acceptable, was too informal and vague for a technical paper. See some examples ahead.

Last, but not least, I do not think that the paper theme is appropriate for a journal about infrastructure, since only car and in particular transmission fluid was tested. But I let this decision to the journal editor.

Line 25: I do not see why “Automatic transmission is a key factor in decreasing CO2-emission”, indeed most of AT have lower mechanical efficiency than manual ones. The author should develop the theme or, what I suggest, omit such unnecessary statement.

Line 64: I did not understand when it is said that “…automatic transmission that has not been used in OEM (original equipment manufacturer) applications …” since later in line 74 it is said that the measurements were made in a BMW vehicle...

Line 77, better to omit the adjective “well-known .. manufacturer ZF”, just says according to the AT supplier

Line 76: better to say “…traveled distance is long enough to cause..”

Liner 120: better to say “periodic signals were generated” or existent or other verb. I do not think that the authors “estimated” the periodic signals. If so, e.g.; by knowing the rotation please explain how the estimation was carried out.

Line 136: better to use “g0” for the standard gravity. Also, better to use 220E-3 to avoid confusion with milligrams.

Line 140: better to omit “if someone wants to see a spectacular difference.”. It is a technical paper, not a show.

Line 142: I do not thick that “protruding” is a good descriptor for vibrations, that by definition, goes in both directions.

line 150: please rephrase paragraph starting on. Not clear what the authors intend to say. Try to be more objective, giving numerical values instead of vague wording like “with 100% same conditions.”, which anyway is usually impossible. Tests are usually done within small limits.

The first sentence of the introduction is exactly the same as the first sentence of the abstract, this should be corrected.

The authors did all of the experimentation and measurement on a single vehicle, a BMW 225 XE. What's done it's done, but in their future work, they should include testing of various manufacturers and models. It's logical to assume the results would be similar, but performing test on more vehicles would improve interest to the readers. This way, the conclusion is simple, car manufacturers should add yet another diagnostic sensor.

The overall scientific contribution of this paper is moderate, but I would still recommend it's acceptance in the present form.
