Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript is a review on the current available information regarding the seed industry of the Bagridae fish family. The topic is relevant in the field, it reports development status of the aquaculture industry for yellow catfish. This review deals with the status of conventional breeding technology of Bagrid catfishes; selective, genetic and cell engineering applied to breeding, hybrid breeding. It shows updated information about breeding in catfish.

No improvement is required about methodology. The manuscript, as a review, highlights the progress in research on breeding conditions, genetic background, stress resistance, metabolic nutrition, and heterosis of hybrid Bagrid catfish.

The conclusions provides prospective ideas for the genetic breeding of Bagrid catfish and emphasizes the urgency in yellow catfish production and seed demand in recent years.

The review also summarizes various types of hybrid yellow catfish, showing the latest research results of the authors.

References are appropriate and some very recent, in the field.

Figures, exception for pictures, could be improved for resolution.

The paper, clearly written and organized, needs however some revision reported in the pdf file.
