First Report on Occurrence and Characterization of Microplastics in Feces of Larus armenicus (Buturlin, 1934) in the Lake Van Basin (Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye)
Highlights
- Microplastics (MPs) were detected in Armenian gull feces across the Lake Van Basin.
- 8197 MP items were recovered, averaging 17.07 items per fecal deposit.
- MP profiles varied significantly by location, indicating spatially structured exposure.
- Fibers predominated (32.6%); most particles were sized 100–300 µm.
- The findings support the use of fecal analysis as an ethical tool for tracking inland plastic pollution.
- Spatial heterogeneity helps target local waste and tourism-related management.
