Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper proposed an improved sparrow search algorithm, it is an interest topic to the researchers in the related areas. However, it's a trivial trick by introducing initial population strategy and inertia weight strategy in swarm intelligent optimization algorithms. I consider that the modification proposed in this article is only marginal and does not contribute some novelty in the field of meta-heuristics for global optimization.

Author proposes a sparrow search algorithm based on Piecewise chaotic mapping, Gaussian differential variation, linear differential decreasing inertia weight improvement (PGL-SSA). Then the algorithm is used in the HVAC system. The paper is partially innovative, but needs to be revised before publication. The details are as follows

1.      More literature on SSA algorithms needs to be added in the introduction section.

2.      It is suggested to add the innovation of the paper and the description of the work after the introduction and put the later description here.

3.      introduce the structure of the paper at the end of the introduction.

4.      the biggest flaw of the paper is that there is no comparison of the improved SSA algorithm, if there is no comparison of the SSA variants, this paper will be rejected because the innovation of this paper is limited and you have to highlight the value of the work.

5.      It is recommended to use more benchmark functions to verify the optimization performance of the algorithm.

6.      It is suggested that a flowchart of the algorithm should also be included.

In summary, the paper still needs to make some changes to be accepted.

The authors proposed a more efficient sparrow search algorithm. To begin,
they examined the effect of six chaotic mappings on the overall performance
of the sparrow search algorithm, and they determined the initialization of the
population by Piecewise chaotic mapping to increase the initial population
richness and improve the initial solution quality; second, they introduced
the Gaussian difference variation in the process of individual iterative update,
and they used the Gaussian difference variation to perturb the individuals
to improve the initial solution quality. The weights were then globally
adjusted using linear differential decreasing inertia weights,
so that the algorithm can fully traverse the solution space with
larger weights in the first iteration to avoid falling into local optimum,
and enhance the local search ability with smaller weights in the later
iteration to improve the search accuracy of the optimal solution.
The results show that the improved algorithm has a faster
convergence speed and higher search accuracy than the comparison algorithm,
and the global search ability has been significantly improved, as well as
the ability to jump out of the local optimum has been significantly improved.
Simultaneously, the improved algorithm is applied to the direction of Heating,
Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system control optimization,
and it is used to optimize the parameters of the HVAC system PID controller,
proving the improved algorithm's feasibility in practical engineering applications.

Overall, the paper is good and contains some scientific merit. However, it should be revised to be publishable.

Comments:

** The abstract of the paper should be rewritten. In fact, the abstract does not reflect the importance & findings of the study and
need to be strengthened based on the aim/outcomes of the manuscript. Authors may consider the following structure:
Introduction, Research Goals, Research Method, Results, Conclusions, Implications, Originality.

** The SSA is a major contribution of this paper, however, the introduction begins by studying the application (HVAC). For this, the introduction should be rewritten
to: (i) first, introduce the SSA, it's motivation, success, limitations, etc, then, introduce the HVAC, and finally the application of the SSA to HVAC.

** The introduction starts with "HVAC system has time-varying", please define all acronyms before using them

** Equations (4) contain typos, please carefully revise

Looking at the manuscript, the author has carefully revised the paper and I think it is acceptable. However, there is one small issue to note, in the introduction section you need to summarize the work of other people and show your own contribution.
