The beneficial effects on the health of the re-experimentation of traumatic experiences are well-established. The effectiveness of using reexperimentation seems to be affected by certain conditions. Among personal variables that have been shown to influence the recovery of such experiences it has highlighted the optimism and alexithymia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on mental health of an intervention based on re-experimentation. The sample consisted in a total of 60 participants, of which 40 carried out a process of emotional re-experimentation through three sessions of expressive writing. The rest formed the control group. All participants were evaluated before and after the emotional disclosure in positive and negative affect, anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts and cognitive avoidance. Furthermore, the level of optimism and alexithymia were controlled. The results showed the effectiveness of expressive writing on the positive and negative affect and on depression. Among the covariables, only optimism affected significantly to effect emotional variables. The contextual and personal conditions that can be ameliorated the clinical use of emotional disclosure were discussed. Full article

The view of the school as a enviromental promoter of personal well-being has raised great interest in the study of variables related to positive development of students in the field of psychoeducational research. This study aims to test a structural model which posits both direct and indirect influence of perceived teacher support through school engagement on satisfaction with life. The study comprised 1250 students of compulsory secondary education aged between 12 and 15 years (Mage=13.72; SD=1.09) randomly selected in the Basque Country, of whom 612 (49%) were male and 638 (50 %) female. The results confirm the influence exerted by perceived teacher support on satisfaction with life through school engagement (²(51)=219.743, p<.001; GFI=.972; CFI=.965; TLI=.954; SRMR=.031; RMSEA=.051). Finally, the results and their implications, as well as the future research perspectives are discussed. Full article

This study compares the statistical methods employed for detecting underachievement, specifically the simple difference method, the regression method and the Rasch method. A sample of 1182 first- and second-year secondary students from 8 high schools in the province of Alicante participated in the study. The results showed a percentage of underachieving students that varies from 14.55% to 30.37%, depending on the statistical method employed. The Rasch method identified the highest number of underachieving students. Statistically significant differences were found between gender and type of student-underachieving and non-underachieving; however, no significant differences were detected between the course and type of student. This study confirms the importance of knowing the measurement properties of the statistical methods, how they affect the detection of underachieving students, and the main educational implications. This study examines physical and sport activities as a source of shared flow or optimal shared experiences and their relationship with subjective well-being (SWB). Two studies are presented with university students (N=88 and N=285) participating in group sports and physical activities. Measures included the degree of engagement in the activity, individual and shared flow, positive emotions, and subjective well-being (SWB). The first study showed that shared flow was more intense than individual flow. In the second study, confirmatory factor analyses and multiple mediation analyses were performed. The results showed a second order factorial structure with nine primary dimensions, in addition to mediating effects of shared flow and positive emotions on SWB. The results confirm the relevance of shared flow during collective gatherings and its relations with SWB. Full article

Psychological well-being is a construct of maximum relevance in psychology, being the equivalent to health in medical sciences. It is a multifaceted construct, with two research traditions: the hedonic and the eudaimonic ones. On the other hand, the paradign of succesful aging is a good theoretical framework to study and understand optimal aging. Rowe and Kahn (1998) articulated this paradign proposing its three main characteristics: physcal health, cognitive functioning and being productive and socially active. The aim of this research is to develop a predictive model of well-being, both hedonic and eudaimonic, using the sucessful aging parading plus a dimension of spirituality. Main results of the model showed that social support had a significant and positive on satisfaction and to a lesser extent on well-being. Pshysical health was also a significant predictor of satisfaction. An finally, spirituality may also be considered a protector of well-being. Percentage of variance explained of life satisfaction was 23.3%, while this percentage on well-being was 10.4%. Full article
