Cover Story: The therapeutic relationship (TR) is a key tool in nursing practice, especially in dealing with people with mental health problems. It is an intervention in itself where both parties seek to work collaboratively. It is a dynamic and, therefore, changing process where respect is the basis. With the aim of empowering the person and making them participate in their health process, the nurse carries out a process where they accept them unconditionally, leaving aside their own behaviors and thoughts or prejudices, as Watson points out in his theory of intentionality of care, accepting the person as they are and as they can become. According to Rogers, the term unconditional acceptance is defined as “the complete acceptance of the individual throughout their experiences and behavior, without any type of critical assessment or self-critical tendency”. View this paper
