1 | An anonymous reviewer questioned the idea of “Standard Catalan” because there are virtually no monolingual varieties of Catalan, and s/he considers that the standard variety takes bilingual Catalan into account. This is not the case, as “Standard” or “Normative” Catalan is an ideal and unmarked variety, geographically speaking, created to unify and standardize the language, and serves as a reference model for the media, school, and administrative contexts.
