Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article is quite theoretical and without good quality of mathematics is hard to understand it. However, the authors conclusions are logical and his suggestions are useful for many task solution on the sphere. I think such as articles can increase the scientiphic level of IJGI.

It is needed to publish articles about theoretical basis of clear approval which we take as axioma

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you for your interesting contribution on a quite original and under-investigated topic. Unfortunately, I need  to highlight how it poorly meets scientific and academic publishing targets.

Although various definition of the orthodrome are presented, as mentioned in the title and abstract, scientific relevance of this deepening is not described nor identified. Paper's structure is missing a methodological part, as well as results and discussion sections.

Similar contribution appears to be more a review than an article, as it is required to be since it is listed as a research article.

Scientific and academic impacts and implication of the research are not considered.

I would suggest to re-structure deeply the work as a review, or to start from similar contribution to develop a more comprehensive research.

Response: Scientific papers are for sharing your own original research work with other scientists or for reviewing the research conducted by others (https://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/scientific-papers-13815490/). If we accept the above, then I think my article can be published as it is.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This paper does not belong to a typical GIS related one. Proving or providing a general derivation in definition of orthodrome is not a good topic for a GIS paper, or you should talk this topic in the other journals of Geodesy. In GIS orthodrome is a concept when we use lines on the surface of earth and we usually need to investigate how it is computed and used in a computer system, which is your paper could improve on.

Response: ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on geo-information. Geo-information is not about GIS only. Geo-information, also known as geospatial information or geoinformatics, refers to data and knowledge related to the Earth's surface and its features.
