Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Reviewers’ report on 'Quasi-Periodic Pulsations in an M-class solar flare' by Xu et al.

The study provides a text-book example on the analyses of QPPs in a solar flare, as observed in various wavelengths. Although the methods are not new, the analyses could be published after some proposed revisions in order to add to the overall event statistics in this research topic.

The main issue is that there are too few references and the discussion is poor.

Introduction

The authors need to include more relevant references on the topic, by expanding and revising the introduction. Namely, add more recent results from previous studies, some are suggested below:

https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/ab8d40

https://doi.org/10.1051/0004-6361/201834455

https://doi.org/10.1007/s11207-021-01876-4

https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/2041-8213/aabde9

etc. Also check for more references & results/statistics in the above papers. There are papers focusing on QPPs in a specific wavelength that could be added as well. This will make the introduction representative.

General issue with the plots:

Note that the green color used is not visible in black-and-white printouts, consider exchanging with a darker color-option.

Language issues:

L. 27: What do you mean by 'plasma clusters'?

Fig. 1, caption: The vertical lines are dashed, not dotted.

Fig. 5: Consider adding a new plot with the same contours (e.g. as Fig. 5b) but instead of a magnetogram you show an image with the flare loops.

L. 114 Figure 7 presents…

L. 130 ‘peaks are correspond’ -> peaks correspond

L. 149 ‘which exhibits the periodic bright points…’  Consider revising, not clear.

Discussion and Conclusions

Add/compare your findings with theoretical explanations of the 40-sec periods, if any, or with other periods.

For example, compare the multi-wavelength pulsations (90-110 sec) with your results: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11207-021-01922-1

Comparison with other studies on QPPs:

Which are the most commonly observed/reported periods?

Does this depend on the frequency of observations or not (as in your case)?

Which is the photospheric/chromospheric/coronal structure they originate from?

Add also an educated guess on the mechanism of the pulsations in your case.

Reviewer 2 Report

I have reviewed the manuscript " Quasi-Periodic Pulsations in an M-class solar flare" by Jun Xu et al. submitted to Universe .  Some minor revision is required . I shall send my final opinion after checking the revised version .

The authors should add the following two papers :

Line 21 :  Chowdhury , Partha et al. 2015 ; Study of multi-periodic coronal pulsations during an X-class solar flare;

Advances in Space Research, Volume 56, Issue 12, p. 2769-2778.

Kupriyanova, Elena G et al. 2019; Quasi-periodic pulsations in a solar flare with an unusual phase shift; Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, Volume 483, Issue 4, p.5499-5507

The authors must write something about the wavelet analysis, the method used, wave number used, cone of influence etc.

What was the background utilized Red or white noise?

Global wavelet analysis (spectrum) must be done in all cases. I am interested to see Global wavelet analysis plots and the corresponding periods. Similarly perform it in case of Figures 6 and 7.

 In figures 1(c);2(c )and 3(c) i.e in the wavelet plots 40 or 50 sec. position must be indicated .

 I think it will be better to prepare wavelet plots of RHESSI 6 -12 KeV as well as 12 - 25 KeV energy bands.

Using EUV images the authors should try to estimate size of the arcade i.e  the length of the loops in the arcade and the length of the arcade of the flaring site.

English language was fine . But, some minor corrections are required .

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

I am pleased to read the revised version and recommend it for publication.

You may consider the following suggestions during the proof-reading:

l.1 M2.3 flares -> M2.3 flare

l.4 with a period -> has a period

l.6 same interval -> same time interval

l.33 add the abbreviation: (HXR)

l.34 Cycle 24 -> solar cycle 24

l.40 correct 'characteristic' into one word

l.49 'multiple' is written twice

l.59 distinguish these -> distinguish between these

l.93 using by -> used by

l.105 correlationship -> correlation

l.118 QPPs with -> QPPs have

l.155, 158, 161 Figure 7 ... presents, gives

l.200 distribution peaks -> distribution that peaks

l.211-212 - combine the sentences?
