Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The work presented in the manuscript addresses the cumulative phenomenon found in recent STAR data on CuCu collisions. The author proposes a description in the colour string model. The results look scientifically sound and their discussion sufficient. The presentation is clear. I find the manuscript acceptable for publication as it stands, with just a few misprints to be corrected, e.g., in lines 17, 48, 111, 1st line of the caption of Fig. 8 or 484. Also punctuation should be checked, e.g., in captions of figures or in references.

Author Response

I agree with all comments of the referee.

I tried to locate and correct all misprints.

Thank You

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

This paper reports on the production of cumulative pions and percolation of strings, which is a useful addition to the literature. The paper is generally well written, however here are some minor comments :

Please clarify the following arguments with perhaps a suitable rephrasing of the following  line numbers.

Abstract:

  1. Line14: a slope of the order 5÷5.6 → what is the meaning of this (÷), Please check?

1. Introduction:

  1.  Line 37 : You mentioned for the first time the “color string models”; can you please mention  any reference for that?

  2. Line 44 - 53 : You discussed the three mechanisms of the cumulative particle production. Could you please put references for each mechanism ?

  3. Line 53: Cumulative pions in contrary are mostly produced by the direct mechanism. Reference?

  4. Line 54-60: You mentioned “color string picture” and “standard color string” approach; you also mentioned “common color string picture”, so does it mean the “standard”? It is a little unclear that Which model is responsible for  production of cumulative pions?

2. Model:

  1. Line 131-139: “This allows us to retain only strings attached to valence partons, quarks and diquarks, in the projectile and neglect all strings attached to sea quarks altogether.” Can you please point out which strings in Fig. 2 you neglect and why? It is a little unclear!

5.2 Probability of cumulativity of the fused string:

  1. Figure 4: Do you have any explanation why we are seeing this trend for n = 2, 3, 4, 5.

  2.

6. Model:

  1. Figure 5: In the rifht→ right

Your result looks promising!

Thanks and regards

The paper is well written in English.
