Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper reviewed the state of the art in magnetic levitation technology for transportation, with specific emphasis on the MagLev2-Cobra. A comparison of MagLev2 with other existing technologies was presented and the relative advantages of MagLev2  highlighted. Some data on the implementation of MAgLev2 in Brazil was also presented. The operation of MagLev2 with the smart grid was also discussed and steps for commercialization presented in the concluding section.

The topic and application considered are interesting. I have the following comments:

The Abstract for the paper is exactly the same as some parts of the introduction. I believe the abstract can be improved to properly capture the objectives and results obtained in the paper.

I find the technical content of the paper limited and can be improved before consideration for publication. The objectives of the paper are also not very clear.

The quality of some Figures needs to be improved, for example Figures 1 and 2.

The main objective of this paper is on the role of MagLev vehicles for mobility in smart cities. However, I find the discussion around smart city mobility very limited.

It is not very clear what the contributions of the paper is. A recommendation is for the Authors to itemize the contributions of the paper within the introduction.

Reviewer 2 Report

The report provides a sound overview of Brazilian developments. The Brazilian findings are well integrated into worldwide trends (Smart Cities). Particularly well done seems to be the comparison, reduced to the essentials, of construction costs and operating costs, which considers wheel-rail technology and Maglev technologies.
The technical comparisons between different Maglev systems are concise and well-founded. There are several courageous statements on the future of transport in cities, which are relevant and important for planners and researchers.
