Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Reviewer’s Comments:

The manuscript “Energy-efficient Weighted Cluster Head Selection and its Implementation in Quantum Computing” is a very interesting work. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient weighted cluster head (CH) selection approach that improves the overall performance of the network and increases energy efficiency. In addition, the implementation of a quantum search algorithm for choosing the CH is explained. Compared to the classical method, the proposed quantum search algorithm has a quadratic speed-up advantage. The classical search algorithm requires N steps to find a specific element in an array of N elements, but instead of using a classical algorithm, Grover’s quantum search algorithm minimizes complexity to O (N). In addition, an optimization strategy is proposed that emphasizes adjusting the transmission range with the appropriate node density and evaluating the energy usage for intra- and inter-cluster communications. While I believe this topic is of great interest to our readers, I think it needs major revision before it is ready for publication. So, I recommend this manuscript for publication with major revisions.

1. In this manuscript, the authors did not explain the importance of the Cluster Head Selection in the introduction part. The authors should explain the importance of Cluster Head Selection.

2) Title: The title of the manuscript is not impressive. It should be modified or rewritten it.

3) Correct the following statement “In this work, an energy-efficient cluster head selection approach is illustrated through a classical weighted clustering algorithm, and the effectiveness of the proposed quantum weighted search algorithm is demonstrated by simulation results that extend network longevity”.

4) Keywords: The Cluster Head Selection is missing in the keywords. So, modify the keywords.

5) Introduction part is not impressive. The references cited are very old. So, Improve it with some latest literature like 10.1016/j.colsurfa.2021.126673, 0.3389/fchem.2022.975355

6) The authors should explain the following statement with recent references, “A parameterized quantum circuit consists of building a Hamiltonian problem where proper optimization of parameters is essential”.

7) Add space between magnitude and unit. For example, in synthesis “21.96g” should be 21.96 g. Make the corrections throughout the manuscript regarding values and units.

8) The author should provide reason about this statement “In order to resolve this problem, they proposed a weighted target-based quantum search algorithm where the probability of finding each target resembles the corresponding weight coefficient and is constituted as a quantum superposition state. In this work, we apply this algorithm to select a CH, which efficiently improves time complexity over the classical approach”.

9. Comparison of the present results with other similar findings in the literature should be discussed in more detail. This is necessary in order to place this work together with other work in the field and to give more credibility to the present results.

10) Conclusion part is very long. Make it brief and improve by adding the results of your studies.

11) There are many grammatic mistakes. Improve the English grammar of the manuscript.

Statement 2:The knowledge gap needs to be clearly addressed in the introduction.

Corresponding changes in Manuscript: Yes, we have highlighted the knowledge gap in the introduction part.

We have stated our knowledge gaps in the Introduction part. Cluster head selection process already implemented through QAOA algorithm, but the limitation is complex Hamiltonian function building, and the nodes are considered as qubits which limited the implementation of this algorithm in large area network. On the other hand, our proposed Quantum Grover’s search algorithm (QWSA) considered the nodes as qubit states that is possible to cover large number of networks with limited number of qubits and helps to optimize the time complexity.

Our response:

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you very much for carefully reviewing our manuscript and providing fruitful suggestions. We appreciate the reviewer’s comment.

Statement 1: What's the problem?

The problem is to select energy efficient CH, there are so much research about cluster head selection which can be solved by classical algorithm but there is few research in quantum computing. In clustering method such as EECS and HEED, the main problem is time complexity that means computation needs long time. Therefore, we proposed quantum search algorithm to speed up the selection process.

Our response:

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you very much for carefully reviewing our manuscript and providing fruitful suggestions. We appreciate the reviewer’s comment. Question No: 7

How will you void selfish nodes and duplicate nodes during cluster head selection?

Our response:

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you very much for carefully reviewing our manuscript and providing fruitful suggestions. We appreciate the reviewer’s comment. This question is very important, as per our assumption, we can void selfish node in our proposed method, but it may be need additional parameter to differentiate selfish node in cluster head selection. In our current proposal, we have proposed only three parameters. In future, we will consider additional parameter to ensure security in cluster head selection process.

In our proposed method, the nodes are stationery and re-deployment of the node will change its distance information. So, we can identify the replica/ duplicate node by the change of re-deployment detection.
