The Journal retracts the article “Synthesis and Characterization of CeO2/CuO Nanocomposites for Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue in Visible Light” [1] cited above.
Following publication, concerns were brought to the attention of the Editorial Office regarding the overlap between Figure 4 presented in this article [1] and a figure depicting different experimental conditions in another publication [2], which shares partial authorship.
Adhering to our complaint procedure, an investigation was conducted by the Editorial Office and Editorial Board that confirmed an overlap between two figures presented in these two publications [1,2] presenting different experimental conditions. The authors were unable to satisfactorily explain the overlap of these figures, nor could they provide raw data requested by the Editorial Board (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/coatings/instructions#oriimages, accessed on 20 November 2025). As a result, the Editorial Board and Editor-in-Chief were unable to confirm the reliability of the findings and subsequently decided to retract this paper, as per MDPI’s retraction policy (https://www.mdpi.com/ethics#_bookmark30, accessed on 20 November 2025).
This retraction was approved by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Coatings.
The authors have been informed of this retraction but did not provide a comment on this decision.
