Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

My submission for improving the manuscript as the following points mentions below as well as highlighted in the manuscript.

(i)                 Improve the methodology for getting the trend analysis for avoiding effect of series correlation. Such as pre-whiting etc…

(ii)               The results may be presented as spatial in graph. All the figures represented such as temporal results

(iii)             All the units which are using for analysis recheck.

(iv)             In the all sections of manuscript rewritten as per standard format.

(v)               Time periods which are considered for abrupt changes or trends should not be over lapping.

(vi)             Seasonal ET0 is decreasing across the south, north, east Xinjiang observed decreasing. what is reason for that?

The issue of soil water storage and consumption has always been the focus of science and research in this area. It is known that the main income of water in the soil is through precipitation, and its consumption occurs through evapotranspiration - evaporation from the soil and transpiration from the crops. At the same time, the climate in different regions of the Earth's land surface changes on average over a period of 30 years. This is also the case for Xinjiang Province, for which the authors have conducted a study of ETO dynamics in time and space over the past 60 years. From this point of view, the work is useful and necessary, but there is a concern for Xinjiang Province in China. Well-known probabilistic statistical methods are applied, and evapotranspiration is calculated using the Penman-Monteith formula.

The number of measurement and observation stations, as well as the research methods and techniques, were correctly selected, taking into account the climate changes for a 60-year period, 1957-2017. The trends in the change of ETO for the study period were found. A serious drawback of the development is the lack of any information on the amount of precipitation in the 48 monitored stations, as well as the water deficit that is formed as a result of evapotranspiration, which, according to existing methodologies, determines the degree of drought. The last fact is important for agriculture and determination of appropriate agricultural crops with a view to full use of the agro-climatic resources of the given area and the necessity of optimization of the irrigation regime, even in the cases of cotton growing. Must be added this comparison and calculated balance between the sum of rainfall and the sum of reference evapotranspiration.
