This paper reviews the findings from research on the surface engineering procedure known as slide burnishing (SB) of metal components. The authors conduct a thorough study of previous works from the last four years in order to summarise the trend of burnishing-based operation research. A number of improvements are suggested to enhance the paper:

1.       It appears that the authors have already published a nearly identical paper with refer to reference 32, with nearly identical trends in presentation. It is strongly advised that authors present their work in different ways to make the new idea compelling.

2.       The images of Figure 1 and Figure 10 are unnecessary. It is suggested that the author display new and interesting images that reflect the text of the paragraphs.

3.       Figure 2 is unclear. It should be redrawn without colour in the box. In addition, the figure appears to be incomplete with “…………………….”.

4.       Many elaborations, such as Diamond Burnishing, FEM, PCD, SCW should be aided with Figures. The elaboration of previous studies appears difficult to understand in the absence of a figures.

5.       The reader may find it difficult to follow the conclusion because it presents like a discussion.

Overall, the authors analyzed and summarized the results found in slide burnishing over a time range (January 2019 to January 2023). The review is a follow-up ona previously published review paper by the authors. The review is relevant since new contributions to the development of slide burnishing have been found for the years 2019–2023. However, some corrections and suggestions are highlighted below and need to be addressed by the authors.

  • Line 44: Add references to the statement, "The technological process of manufacturing implies various impacts: mechanical, thermal, physical, and chemical, as well as others."
  • Line 53: Specify or give the range of the additional loads.
  • Line 55: Change "Manifasts" to "Manifests"
  • Line 59: Add references to the statement "The nucleation of fatique micro-cracks in the material of the real metal components is determined by their non-uniform crystal structure, characterized by numerous micro-defects, such as dislocations, vacancies, non-metallic inclusions, etc".
  • Lines 79–80: Rewrite the sentence.
  • Line 124: Add more references to "some researchers"
  • Lines 178–185: Add the databases from which the articles used for the review are retrieved, state the search keywords used in retrieving the articles, and state the total number of articles retrieved.
  • Table 2: Characteristic 2.1: close the gap in Ra (Sa). same in characteristic 2.3: surface stereometric structure.
  • Line 321: Close the gap in Ra (Sa).
  • Line 326: State the software used in analyzing the FEM model in the articles, e.g., ABAQUS, ANYSYS. Discuss whether the FEM model accurately predicted the residual stresses in the articles and state whether the FEM model agrees with the experimental approach.
  • Lines 448–453: Add that "no information was found on slide burnishing of cast iron." Therefore, the study on the slide burnishing of cast iron might be looked into.
  • References: Some of the references did not adhere to the Applied Sciences journal format (lines 505, 509, 519, 526, 532, 542, 544, 556, 558, 564, 570, 575, etc.). For example, book titles should be in italics, and journal titles must be abbreviated. Apply this to all the references.
