Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors

The manuscript applsci-1734083 proposes a study of the premature damage of the heavy-duty pavement using data mining techniques applied to ANN. The study focuses in the effect of the vehicle-highway alignment interaction, especially in the effect of the curvature and longitudinal grade of the road. The manuscript is well structured, the study is well defined, the bibliography is adequate (could be excessive) and the results validate the proposed method.

The study itself is quite interesting as well as the proposed future research lines.

The reviewer would like to propose a couple of suggestions to the authors:

·         Provide information about the data volume that has been used in the study.

·         Add a reference for R Studio (line 202)

The reviewer proposes a minor revision to give the authors the opportunity to consider the above points.

Best Regards.

Accepted with major modification.

The topic of the paper is stimulating and needs to be revised. However, some comments need to be addressed:

1)         There is a need to be adequately revised for an abstract section? The abstract is very short, and I suggest rearranging it based on journal requirements. Furthermore, the abstract includes a brief introduction, problem statement, methodology, and results, making it easy to read for the reader.

2)         In the introduction section, my suggestion is to address the objective at the end?

3)         The literature review is too short, and I would expect much more on the technical issue that reflects the use of machine learning or artificial neural networks based optimization techniques in pavement engineering?

  • DOI: 28991/cej-2020-03091590

4)         The authors pointed out that the current study implemented highway alignment or future perspectives but did not give possible directions for future studies?

Reviewer 3 Report

The prediction of the dynamic loads is an important research subject.

The simulation results are presented. The authors should provide a snapshot of the implemented simulation file.

For clarity, one block diagram with real-time implementation should be provided and appropriately explained.

New references (2022) should be included and critically compared with the provided solution.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper's title is "A new approach to predict dynamic loads considering highway alignment using data mining techniques." It is a valuable contribution to the journal of applied science. However, I recommend making one more effort by addressing some more comments to enhance the paper and make it more readily accessible. Finally, accept with minor revisions after addressing the following comments:

                                I.            The title must be change

My suggestion to authors (A new approach to predict dynamic loads considering highway alignment uses machine learning techniques.)

II.            The format of the reference is not consistent. All reference need to be fix.

III.            In my opinion, the research articles contribute to the scientific credibility of the mentioned highway in the field of pavement engineering. Finally, I am able to process a repeated review within 3 days.
