Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled « Bioactive compounds and antioxidant properties of banana inflorescence in a beverage for maternal breastfeeding » presents the study of the inflorescence of banana which were extracted in various solvents to determine the bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity.

In general, work should be deeply improved since the interest of such raw materials and products does not appear clearly. The information included in the work methodology should be expanded. There is no professional statistical analysis of the obtained results. And the figures and tables should be improved. Also, a discussion should be improved.

Although beverage are widely used in the food industry; I am not sure that presented beverage is appropriate for consumption, because of lack of organoleptic evaluation of the drink. Summing up, the work requires significantly improvement before printing.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper investigates the importance of Banana inflorescence and its effect on postpartum mothers, increasing blood circulation and milk lactation.

The introduction needs more references

The authors need to pay attention to English mistakes. I found a couple of them, but I believe there are more English mistakes.

  • Line 57- Previous reports showed...- need a couple of references
  • Iine 42-43- English- I would suggest to write like this way

...especially in whether the breast milk quantity is enough for infant growth. Therefore, postpartum mothers often explore herbal and pharmaceutical galactagogues to improve breastfeeding infants' exclusive breastfeeding.

  • Iine 56-58- English- I would suggest to write like this way

Previous reports showed the potential of bananas in promoting 56 milk production; thus, in this study, bananas' inflorescence was extracted to determine the 57 bioactive compounds and antioxidants and develop a maternal beverage breastfeeding.

  • Iine 188-190- English- I would suggest to write like this way

Mahmood et al. [7] reported that active compounds, such as saponins and tannins, in the Musa 189 flower's aqueous extract demonstrated significant galactagogue properties in rats.

  • Iine 223-225- English- I would suggest to write like this way

We produced a beverage containing the aqueous extract of banana inflorescence (BAB) and evaluated the physicochemical properties to standardize the product from the above results.

  • Iine 228-230- English- I would suggest to write like this way

The beverage specification includes the color, pH, and solid and total phenolic contents, which makes it possible to be used in industrial applications.
