Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Language of the manuscript needs significant improvement, both grammatically and in style. There are multiple problems of wrong preposition usage, singular and plural verb form, verbs are missing, etc. Authors are kindly asked to ask help of native English speaker or professional language proofing.

Avoid pilling up the references. As a general rule each reference should be explained by the separate sentence.

Line 93: probably "necessary" is better choice than "motivated"

Line 137: "bearing has nothing to do with time" - inappropriate writing style for scientific paper

Line 173: not equation (1) but some other, probably (6)

In the results section, if you are giving continuum flow model, are you referring to your present solution or the literature?

Which model was used to calculate results in Fig 7 and Fig 8?

Line 283: undervalues it is wrong expression

More physical reasoning behind observed values in result section is needed.

In Fig. 13 and Fig. 14 in the axis title is B/D, whereas in the Figure description and the manuscript text is L/D. Please correct.

Description of Fig. 14 is wrong, it should be dynamic damping coefficients.

Please clearly state the scientific novelty of your work as well as its significance. In the present form it merely resembles numeric exercise, rather than providing new knowledge to the field.

There are no references to the selected journal which means that topic is out of scope or authors are not aware about similar studies provided in the journal. Either way, it should be corrected in the revised version.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article discusses the analysis of aerodynamic radial bearings of very small dimensions, in which the effect of rarefaction plays an important role. Theoretical foundations and basic formulas were given. A number of computational analyses were performed in which the impact of various factors on the performance of a gas journal bearing was analysed.

The paper is quite interesting and carefully prepared. All figures are legible and are discussed in the manuscript. Most of the cited papers were published many years ago. Only 6 of the 32 publications have been published in the last 5 years. Therefore, in my opinion, the publication review should be updated.

The weakest part of the article is the total lack of experimental verification. Selected calculation results were compared with the results of other researchers [ref. 32], but it is also a theoretical work presenting numerical analysis. The reviewed paper is therefore purely theoretical. That is why I have doubts whether it should be published in the Applied Sciences Journal.
