Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The work has a very high level of originality. The research method is rigorous and clearly presented.
I have very small observations, which I present in the following table.

The article is very well prepared both professionally and formally.
I would recommend that the authors consider repairing:
- between word and [x] should be a gap,

- unify in the abstract and text µm.s-1 and µm/s,

- to repair, should be Fp and Fd (text) or Fp and Fd (formulas), I assume that, as in the formulas,
- under the image 1, 5, 9 centered,

- fix below the pictures - Figure X. not Figure.X

Reviewer 3 Report

It is an interesting paper. The topic is appropriate for the journal and the subject is of current interest. Thus, I recommend that manuscript to publish in Applied Sciences. However, some editing improvements should be introduced:

In section “Introduction” should be numbered as 1. Next sections should be consequently numbered. Before brackets “(, [“ the space symbol should be inserted. Between value and unit should be space, for example “5 mm” Signatures below the drawings looks like “Figure.9”. It should be “Figure 9.”. Four sections of Figure 9 are on two pages. They should be merged. In verse 20 is the sentence: “Aluminum and its alloys are widely used in aerospace”. In verse 23 and 24 is the sentence: “makes aluminum become 23 more popular in aviation and aerospace”. It seems to be a repetition.

After completing the above-mentioned comments, I strongly recommend the paper for publication.

The paper reports about “Micro-Slit Cutting in An Aluminum Foil Using An Un-travelling Tungsten Wire”. The topic of the paper has a relevant interest for the technology. However, it requires a revision prior to publication.

The following suggestions have to be addressed before publication of the paper:

In the Introduction WEDM, WECM and Laser Cutting methods are described. Please introduce more information concerning the advantages and the disadvantages of the processes. The References are not included the new publications (previous up to 5 years), only one of article is published in 2017 year. In the Figure 5, the scale is unclearly and some errors occur in the values of the secondary velocity.

3. The results analysis are not involved the physical phenomena occurring in the cutting method. There is no information concerning the mechanical and the physical properties of aluminium material. Please indicate the symbol of used aluminium material and the chemical composition.
