Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper “Efficient Verification of Cryptographic Protocols with Dynamic Epistemic Logic” presents an theoretical paper on the security of cryptographic protocols. The work appears novel and interesting. The theory is documented with rigour and the results seem to be significant progress. However, there are some important consideration to be taken into account before suggesting the publication in Applied Sciences.

Some minor points on the paper which can improve the final readability:

  • The introduction has to be updated. Which cryptographic protocols are we considering? Today there are different kind of cryptographic protocols and in particular quantum key distribution is one of the most promising. I encourage the authors to include a small summarize and include these references regarding QKD:
  1. Pirandola et al., arXiv:1906.01645 (2019)
  2. Bacco et al., Communications Physics volume 2, Article number: 140 (2019)

  • I suggest to carefully read the paper and correct some English errors.

  • Would it be possible to a plot and show the advantage of this new method compared to the current method?

  • Which kind of channel are you considering between the transmitter and the receiver?

Reviewer 2 Report

Information security is a challenging field and the verification of cryptographic protocols is a very important research topic. The paper is focused on presenting a new formal language based on dynamic epistemic logic for protocol verification.

Since there are a large number of works in the field of protocol verification I think that the related works section can be extended and a detailed comparison between the proposed method and the existing ones might be provided.

The third section of the paper, where the dynamic epistemic language is introduced is detailed and well written.

Sections 4 and 5 provides an case study for cryptographic protocol verfication.

The references are recent.
