Reviewer 2 Report
This manuscript describes a well-presented study which investigated subjective beliefs and reported performance of strategies of ageing. futurization of thinking and behaviour is an emerging field and its application to the ageing process is worthwhile studying. Overall, the current work addresses important issues regarding the global phenomenon of ageing. Although there are limitations in the current study as also discussed in the manuscript, the preliminary results are of value for future work investigating futurization of ageing and the associations in adulthood.
1.
Ln 133, Section 2.1 Data Collection and Research Design, other than age, should state explicitly whether there are other exclusion criteria during the recruitment process.
2.
The introduction part on healthy ageing was well presented with relevant references. It would further strengthen the background section and conceptual framework if the definition of healthy ageing, with reference to the WHO definition (Decade of Healthy Ageing, https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/documents/decade-of-health-ageing/decade-healthy-ageing-update-march-2019.pdf?sfvrsn=5a6d0e5c_2), can be reinforced in the first paragraph on page 1, in relation to the factors influencing healthy ageing. Reference may also be made with WHO statement which defines health as: “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or illness or infirmity”, and recent literature review regarding healthy ageing, e.g.
A review study of a green diet and healthy ageing. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 18(15), 8024;
Predictors of healthy ageing: public health policy targets. BMC health services research, 16(5), 441-453.
3.
The names of the strategy items (Table 1, page 5) should be consistent with the listed items on page 4 (ln 178-199). Suggest to change “Thinking of how own cognitive abilities work” to “Thinking of how own memory, attention, cognitive abilities work” in Table 1 (page 5).
4.
Ln 237-239, for the mentioned top rated strategies and lowest rated strategy, the mean scores of the respective items are suggested for mentioning (in bracket) after each item.
5.
The discussion section (p.8) is suggested to be expanded which may include more linkage to other relevant studies and further implications on how the current study contribute to the understanding of healthy ageing and futurization of ageing.
6.
In general the manuscript is well presented, but still some writing issues need to be checked, e.g. ln 13, should be “mechanisms of formation” instead of “mechanisms fo formation”; ln 41, should it be “then person can”, instead of “than person can”?
