Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1) Driskell  is not  listed in the references although mentioned in a figure caption. So better check references again

 2) The conclusions are not up to par with the excellent article: indeed it would be useful to give  concrete examples - ideal it would be one for each country involved in the project - of the type of initiatives that could be launched or supported, in order to implement  all that has been convincingly  theorized  in relation to the dynamics to be avoided in empowering  integration of migrants and in promoting their participation in civil society.   Or possibly mention a future article in which good practices will be reported.

Author Response

Thanks for your kind comments. I will add Driskell work to the references. I will explain in the conclusions that another article will deal with the good practices that the project is implementing

Reviewer 2 Report

The article presents a solid conceptual and theoretical discussion, on current topics and mobilizing both classical and more recent bibliographic references, and crossing theory within a project aiming an empirical stance of intervention.

Review suggestions are minor, and regard:

1. a bigger reflection on the institutional frameworks behind core references, particularly "integration" by IOM, which became the UN's reference organization for migration;

2. considering "mixing" is put within the objectives/indicators of success of the pilot initiatives and the project overall, it would be interesting to find some references discussing "social mix";

3. line 359, when referring to the Action Plan, the reader can loose track without understanding immediately what context or organization (in this case, the European Commission) promoted this plan, so a brief reference should be put in the main text.
