Reviewer 2 Report

This paper presents an analysis of improvement of ridge coefficient optimization criterion for ridge-estimation-based dynamic system response curve method in flood forecasting. In this paper, based on the properties of model simulated residuals, authors presented  a new optimization criterion named balance and random degree criterion by considering sum of squares of flow errors. The paper reads well and can be accepted after minor revision. See the below:

  1. What are the advantages and limitations of the dynamic system response curve (DSRC) method?
  2. Again, what are the advantages and limitations of the DSRC-R method?
  3. Elaborate the caption of Figure 5.
  4. Table 5. can go to appendix/supplementary section.

Reviewer 3 Report

The title of this paper is “The improvement of ridge coefficient optimization criterion for ridge-estimation-based dynamic system response curve method in flood forecasting”. The methodology of this paper is new to me. However, the structure of this paper needs a revision for publication in Water. Therefore, I recommend a major revision in this paper.
