Role of the Dilution of the Gd Sublattice in Forming the Scintillation Properties of Quaternary (Gd,Lu)3Al2Ga3O12: Ce Ceramics
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Very nice, well written manuscript. Just a couple of things
(1) Please use consistent formatting for plots. (Ticks, lines, etc)
(2) Lines 240-243, The authors used the word hump to describe a TSL band (Trap?). Please provide a better description of this trap (i.e. what causes these traps?)
(3) It would be nice that if equation (5), is replaced by a energy band diagram. (This is just a suggestion)

1.Please use consistent formatting for plots. (Ticks, lines, etc) |
Figures were updated. |
2.Lines 240-243, The authors used the word hump to describe a TSL band (Trap?). Please provide a better description of this trap (i.e. what causes these traps? |
Corrected. |

We agree with the Reviewer, graphical presentation of the energy diagram may be a good presentation of the scintillation mechanism. Corresponding diagrams we published, please see Chapter 3 in Ref. [46]. Due to this reason, we decided do not reprint figure and use equation (5). |

"Role of the dilution of the Gd sublattice in forming the scintillation properties of quaternary (Gd, Lu)3Al2Ga3O12: Ce ceramics". Some items should be considered as follows:
1. Typos and grammar errors are common in the manuscript. A considerable number of sentences are not comprehensible, some of which can be due to typos or grammar errors. About the manuscript, it is recommended to recheck the grammatical errors or typos.
2. The abstract must be improved. The abstract is very general and should focus more precisely on the findings of the study.
3. Please check and modify sec.3 (results should be results and discussion)
4. Please place Fig.1 to results and discussion sec and discuss it.
5. Please check and modify the position of Fig.1b and c.
6. The conclusion should be placed in the appropriate position of the results and discussion part. The conclusion should be more concise.
7. In this manuscript, results are well presented, but discussion on the obtained results must be completely provided. Results should be more discussed and compared to the findings from other researchers.

The text has been checked by a language carrier. |
2. The abstract must be improved. The abstract is very general and should focus more precisely on the findings of the study |
Some numbers characterizing scintillation kinetics are included. Now, summary lists essential findings which are caused by dilution of Gd sublattice by Lu substitution. |
3. Please check and modify sec.3 (results should be results and discussion) |
Modified. |
4.Please place Fig.1 to results and discussion sec and discuss it |
The results and discussion sections are rearranged. New paragraph (3.1 Microstructure properties) is created.
|
5.Please check and modify the position of Fig.1b and c. |
Modified. |
6.The conclusion should be placed in the appropriate position of the results and discussion part. The conclusion should be more concise |
The concluding part is shortened. |
7.In this manuscript, results are well presented, but discussion on the obtained results must be completely provided. Results should be more discussed and compared to the findings from other researchers. |
Most of the articles addressing the GLAGG:Ce crystalline system and the results reported are listed in the introducing part of the article. They are [16-32]. In our article, we focused on the study of the origin of why scintillation properties are still far from the expected numbers. Moreover, there is a lack of arricles debating modelling of the electronic excitation transfer processes in the GAGG family. |

"Ceramics sample (G3, Gl2) with minor polished and thermally etched at 1250 °C with JSM 7100 F at 20 KV acceleration voltage"
Please provide the details of sample processing in materials and methods section.
Author Response
Materials and methods section is modified. Following sentence is included.
Polishing of the samples was carried out on a POLYLAB P12M machine. For finishing polishing, Kemet Aquapol-M diamond suspensions were used.
Thermal etching of the samples was carried out at a temperature of 1250 oC for 10 minutes in a Linn EVA 1700 oven.
