Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper titled " Generation of a highly efficient electrode for ethanol oxidation by simply electrode deposition palladium on the oxygen plasma treated carbon fibber paper

Authors Houg-Yuan Pei, Chen-Han Lin, Wei Lin and Chiun-Jye Yuan  before acceptation for the publication  in the Catalyst  have to be improved

1.First, the introductory section should be improved. In this version of the manuscript, the analysis of the physicochemical properties of the other catalysts studied, proposed by the authors, should be included. Information on direct ethanol fuel cellsis lacking (performance, stability and other analyzes related to the catalysts used should be given

2. Data to XPS surface analysis before and after electrochemical investigations should be provided

3 The test of direct ethanol fuel cells should be provided in laboratory conditions

Reviewer 2 Report

In this work  a carbon-supported Pd was developed by electrodepositing nanostructured Pd on the oxygen plasma-treated carbon fiber paper (Pd/pCFP). In Table 1 they compared the current density  of Pd-based carbon electrodes for ethanol oxidation in alkaline media from different papers. This comparison is not appropriate as in some works the current density is normalized by the electrode area and in other works by the electrochemically active surface area (ECSA). Moreover, the current density dpends on the Pd loading. Thus Table 1 has to be removed. To evaluated the effectiveness of this support, the authors have to prepared carbon supported Pd on conventional carbon supports, and have to calculate the ECSA, then to compare their specific activity.
