Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors report on the modification of Mg for hydrogen storage. The results are interesting but do not bring significant new knowledge. The Authors should aim at improving this, in particular in the discussion section

The paper contains many formatting mistakes that can make it hard to read and understand. Here are some of them:

Row 62: don't start a sentence with "Examples:"

Row 65: problem with the reference formatting

Row 72: column (:) should me used instead of semicolumn (;) after "requiring;"

Row 100: rephrase the XRD results to make them clearer

Row 108: reformat "D: Cyrstallite size/ K: Scherrer constant/ λ:wavelength" in a more scientific way

Row 199: only 20 particle were used to plot a size distribution graph, more particles should be used to have a better idea of the size distribution

Row 199: x-axis of the graph starts at -1 micrometer, does not make sense

Row 233: scale bar shows o.2 micrometer, instead of 0.2 micrometer

Row 256: For reference 29, the authors are listed as N. Academy and N. Str. -- A quick search shows that the author is Ihor Zavaliy from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (5 Naukova Str. is listed as the address)

Row 295: reformat the recipe, for example "ZrCl4 1.5 grams and Ni(NO3)2.6H2O 2.3 grams"

Reviewer 2 Report

In the present manuscript Zirconium Nickel (Zr(x)Ni(y)) alloy have been synthesised alloy to improve hydrogen storage properties of Mg/MgH2 system. This work provides a interesting preparation of a composite MgH2/10 wt.% Zr(x)Ni(y), with a characterisation of the sample where some techniques such as nitrogen porosimetry and XPS would be necessary for a better understanding of the materials.

There are some other minor comments:

On Figure 1, please indicate that x-Axe corresponds to 2Θ (º).

Regarding to average crystallite size calculation, indicate which angle has been used for nickel and zirconium.

For the preparation of MgH2/10 wt.% Zr(x)Ni(y) Nanocomposite the milling step was carried out for 5 hours. Have authors optimise this parameter, milling time?

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript has been well revised and should be accepted as it is

Reviewer 2 Report

In the revised version of the work with title "Development of a novel method for the  fabrication of nanostructured Zr(x)Ni(y) catalyst to enhance the desorption properties of MgH2". Authors have improved the manuscript according to the guidelines given by the reviewers. From the point of view of this revierw the present work could be enriched by including XPS experiments of the catalyst. Nevertheless, it is well discussed and can be considered for its publication in present form.
