Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Interesting research, referring to the theory, conducted on a large sample. Although, in my opinion, the term ‘region’ should be precisely defined in the questionnaire. This would increase the usability of the results, especially in the context of sustainable regional and local development policy.

Review

The manuscript is about the "I" and the "We" in nature conservation – Investigating personal and collective motives to protect one’s regional and global nature.

Some comments are found below:

1.      Please make uniform style in the abstract section.

2.      Pay attention to line 15 and 16, there is a misalignment.

3.      Why do you repeat the title at the beginning of page 2?

4.      Uniform style and letter size

5.      Please avoid direct tenses live in line 46 “we investigate”. Use indirect sentences throughout the manuscript.

6.      Line 67: comprehensive action determination model (CADM), (Klöckner, 2013; Klöckner 66 & Blöbaum, 2010).

7.      I suggest enumerating the chapters and subchapters to better understand the flow of the manuscript

8.      Please uniform the dimension of the figures 1 and 2

9.      At the beginning of the conclusion section please clearly state the general objective of this work.

1.   Deepen the conclusions analyzing other aspects that may be found relevant by the authors.

1.   Please highlights recommendations and future investigation in this matter.

Author Response

Thank you for all your comments and recommendations! I will briefly go into this point by point.

1. to 4.: done

5. We understand that at the moment there are discussions about whether one should choose direct or indirect wording in scientific manuscripts. Both ways probably have certain advantages and disadvantages. Here, we would prefer to use direct phrases as well.

6. to 8.: done

9. to 11.: We revised the conclusion section and added information about practical implications. We belief that the conclusion section is now written in a more profound and understandable way.

Again, thank you for your comments!

Author Response

Thank you for your comments and recommendations! We revised the abstract and reduced the text in brackets. Further, we included notes in the main text. The research questions are now summed up more clearly at the end of the present research section. We also discussed the use of technical phrases at the beginning of the introduction but decided to maintain this examples as they crucially point out that collective effort is necessary to address collective crisis which is one of the core statements of this manuscript. Further, we revised the conclusion section. The limitations are now integrated in the conclusion section. We further added some practical implications of our findings! Thank you for your helpful comments!
