Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors propose to use a higher-order networks to analyze influencing mechanisms of global industrial value chains embedding on trade implied carbon emissions.

There are various aspects that should be improved:

Firstly, the cited literature needs to be improved and extended. The impact of industrial value chain embedding on trade implied carbon emissions is not explained. In other words, it does not explain the relationship between industrial value chain embedding and trade implied carbon emissions. The literature review is rather thin, only describing the view of final demand and the research of trade implied carbon emissions.

Secondly,Some explanatory variables (R&D expenditure share) are not explained.

Thirdly, it does not become clear how the studied drivers are interrelated ,then this should be explained in better detail.

Other minor comments include:

1.P7:the subscript of the letter is incorrect.

2.P10:4.2.1.4.is wrong. There have the same serial number with above.

3.p11:It's not clear what the symbols for D stand for.

4.p15:the graph is incomplete and does not indicate what the blue and green lines represent.

5.the formulation is messy

Reviewer 2 Report

Interesting article. I make three comments: 1. The problem is barely discussed in the article. Too little citation contributes to the final discussion. 2. in the final discussion, the author should refer to the literature more broadly, and show how his research differs from similar ones and from the literature on the subject, in order to show the author's contribution in a broader way. 3. requires a broader justification of why the author chose such and not other methods, where the data come from, and what is their significance. Conclusions need to be corrected, they are too general.

Reviewer 3 Report

The proposed article studies an important question influence of global industrial value chains embedding on trade implied carbon emissions by higher-order networks.

Interesting research has been done. The topic is also important for the readers of the journal. To continue reviewing, a revision should be done. I see the following issues:

1.    Language should be checked.

2.    The author should think about the title of the paper.

3.    Authors should particularize research Hypothesis.

4.    In Introduction the structure of the research should be given.

5.     Before the “Conclusion” separate paragraph “Discussion” should be added.

Resume. In my opinion, the article can be published after revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article has been corrected. Nevertheless, I believe that the literature review is the weak part of the article.
