Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Overall the paper is interesting.

However, the topic is too broad and the findings stated are common and well-awared issues all over the world. It is good if the authors can be specific to particular issues and propose a practical solution for that issue.

If the authors want to remain with the existing title, please ensure a wide and extensive study are conducted rather than focusing on one area of study.

Author Response

Thanks for your comments. We have revised the title and it has been modified to be more specific and representative of the content of the manuscript.

It would be as follows:

Qualitative analysis of the use of ICTs and necessary personal skills (self-efficacy, creativity and emotional intelligence) in future teachers: implications for education

Reviewer 2 Report

The research study may be appreciated as the authors have contributed significant knowledge about the use of ICTs as an issue under debate by future teachers and your individuals’ competencies: a qualitative analysis through a qualitative approach, however, I have the following minor reservations that may enhance the quality of the manuscript if addressed properly:

1.      The abstract section is well written; a statement of the problems and clear objectives are given, but research questions are missing both in the abstract as well in the introduction section.

2.      Introduction and review of the literature section are very well written but the theoretical background is missing. A good theoretical background is needed to be added. Further, need a little elaboration on the term “Self-efficacy” mentioned in lines 94 to 103.

3.      A good rationale is developed by the authors and has justified their study logically but still, it can be improved by strong argumentations.

4. Sample is well elaborated but needs systematic presentation.

5. Research questions must be developed by the authors to guide the study trend.

6. Data analysis is very good and results are properly triangulated

To sum up, the study addressed an important topic; and very good contribution to the relevant field.

REVIEWER 2

The research study may be appreciated as the authors have contributed significant knowledge about the use of ICTs as an issue under debate by future teachers and your individuals’ competencies: a qualitative analysis through a qualitative approach, however, I have the following minor reservations that may enhance the quality of the manuscript if addressed properly:

  1. The abstract section is well written; a statement of the problems and clear objectives are given, but research questions are missing both in the abstract as well in the introduction section.

Thank you very much for your appreciation. We have included the research questions in the abstract and the text, just before the objectives.

  1. Introduction and review of the literature section are very well written but the theoretical background is missing. A good theoretical background is needed to be added. Further, need a little elaboration on the term “Self-efficacy” mentioned in lines 94 to 103.

Thank you very much for your appreciation. The term self-efficacy has been further elaborated.

  1. A good rationale is developed by the authors and has justified their study logically but still, it can be improved by strong argumentations.

Has been revised and modificated in the text. Thanks!

  1. Sample is well elaborated but needs systematic presentation.

Thank you for your recommendation, a systematic presentation of the participants has been made.

  1. Research questions must be developed by the authors to guide the study trend.

Research questions have been included, thank you very much for your recommendation.

  1. Data analysis is very good and results are properly triangulated

Thank you very much for your appreciation.

To sum up, the study addressed an important topic; and very good contribution to the relevant field.

We want to thank the reviewer for their positive feedback and for their valuable comments. We hope that the changes introduced will contribute to improving the quality of the manuscript.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper should be published after Minor revision and with statements on the following questions:

-           in Line 535 and the following: the authors stated that “It is hoped that this study will highlight the current significant lack of knowledge and training in the ICTs among trainee teachers, making it necessary to encourage the importance of using the ICTs and proposing training 537 programs directed at future teachers with the aim of developing and increasing their competences in the field of ICT. In this way, in the future, they will be able to prepare their pupils to make optimal use of new technologies.”

=> there are several research results concerning these basic digital literacy skills, especially in science (Education) and how to integrate it in e.g. university curriculum in MDPI Journals. I recommend considering this research.

-      In Line 524 the authors say “The new information and communication technologies (ICTs), …”. I don't think that the mentioned tools are really new.

-         it is unclear to me, why this paper was submitted to “Sustainability” and not to “Education Sciences” since sustainability is not the focus of this paper. I recommend highlighting the benefits for substantiality (or Education for Sustainability/ESD).

The manuscript has been submitted to sustainability since it fits with the special number “Advances in Research for Innovation in Teaching in Different Areas of Knowledge: A Step Toward Educational Sustainability”, since the objective of the work has been to investigate the opinion of future teachers about the use of ICT in the teaching-learning process and their individual competencies such as self-efficacy, creativity and emotional intelligence.

However, the text has been revised and changes have been introduced aimed at highlighting the relationship between the content of the manuscript and the line of the journal.
