Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Likewise, there is no scientific study on how the stakeholders pressure affect CSR practiced in manufacturing enterprises. (rows 118-119). Are you 100% sure? Wouldn’t a safer approach such as … there is a lack of studies on …. be a better alternative?

Since Ethiopia is a center of Africa Union, and become strategic choices for foreign 120 direct investment (FDI). Please use a reference for this!

There exists scarce research about Chinese companies investing in foreign developing countries in terms of CSR especially in Ethiopia. Please use a reference at least for the idea of foreign developing countries.

On line 162, CRS is written instead of CSR

As a result, large businesses profit from stakeholder trust, which will incentivize and justify its assessment. Please clarify what you want to state.

Rows 200-203- please explain and reference the perspectives of primary and secondary stakeholders.

Rows 222-224- In contrast, the influence of media and social activist groups, which are rarely considered as primary and most important stakeholders, namely media and social activist groups [37]. Please clarify this part.

Figure 1 must be revised as there are incomplete words

The sub-chapter Sample Selection and Sampling Techniques must be revised from the language perspectives. Moreover, how is the sample size employed in this study comparing to other quantitative studies performed in CSR? Please provide references.

For future research directions, my suggestion would be to consider also a qualitative research to investigate company’s perceptions (actually managers’ perceptions) on various stakeholders. Please check for tools the work of Zaharia and Zaharia (2017)

Zaharia, R., & Zaharia, R. M. (2017). Qualitative Research Methods: how to Ask and Whom to Ask? A Comparison between Focus Group and In-depth Interviews. In International E-Conference: Enterprises in The Global Economy (pp. 144-149).

The most significant problem of this manuscript is the language. The authors must thoroughly proofread the manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is very good research that applies solid and consolidated research methodologies to assess and a specific topic.

Within the broad stakeholder theory framework, it focuses on the factors that potentially affect CSR adoption in Ethiopia.

Interesting results and consistent modelling characterise this research.

Only two, very minor, suggestions

  • Table 2. please specify that the values are Betas
  • Some typing mistakes here and there, please revise.

Congratulations.

Kind regards

Reviewer 3 Report

I appreciated the authors’ effort to write this manuscript.

This paper is timely and there is an originality and contribution in this paper within the subject matter.

However, there are some critical shortcomings. I believe that there is still so much to do for this paper. I outlined the lacking areas and the problems each sections of the paper in detail below.

The research question and method section are not clear.

Literature review has a great coverage of the study objectives and has an extensive background and review within the subject matter. Two things I would like to mention here. I suggest authors to provide a comprehensive table explaining what has been done within the subject matter with author citations on the topic. Also, streamline this section as it is somewhat hard to read as is.

The authors need to extend the limitation and implications of the study. For a paper like this, the authors specifically need to discuss the future research avenues in detail based on the review critique they provided.

Has attention been paid to the clarity of expression and readability.

I suggest to improve the reference list with these articles:
