Making Sense of Resilience
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Dear authors,
I really thank you for giving me the possibility to review the paper named "Making sense of resilience". I hope you and your family are safe and well in this particular period.
Looking at your paper I read and appreciate it. The Resilience is very actual
for the particular period we are living.
I suggest some discussion points only to improve your paper.
I read the literature and I suggest to improve it with these papers :
10.15866/irece.v11i3.19025 ; doi: 10.1016/j.ress.2015.03.013; doi: 10.1016/j.ssci.2010.09.003.
In particular the first paper is the application of resilience in a different field, but it's very interesting in the formulation. The others are GURU of resilience, in particular the last profundize different aspects.
The problem of resilience is that each one formulates it for a field. At this regard I think that the Universal formulation would be the future to measure the Resilience even if it's not simple. As you stated, we move in complex systems.
For the conclusions please explain better the weakness of your research and underline better the future research.
Do these changes and you'll get the result.

The paper addresses a very important topic, and is well written, and elaborated. My only comment for this paper would be it will be good to show the methodology of systematic review of the resilience framework. If you do not intend to do systematic review, please clarify the reason in the methodology. There are already very good work on resilience concept, so, it is important to highlight the uniqueness of the current review, whether in terms of methods / process or in terms of results etc. Another issue is system thinking of resilience. This is widely discussed in several research, where there is a need of collective resilience thinking of inter-connectedness. It will be good to discuss this issue in the discussion.

The manuscript undertakes a critical analysis of C.S. Hollings work on resilience and argues against the perspective of the Resilience Alliance. It appears well researched. As a minor comment do the authors have any thoughts on how applying this alternate perspective might modify current environmental policy priorities in Europe?
